The Ispiciwin Project: Traveling Toward a Cleaner Future

How we get from place to place is something most of us take for granted. Whether it’s the morning school run, a trip to the grocery store, or a weekend visit with friends, our ability to move freely and independently shapes the way we live. In Canada, where distances are wide and winters are long, vehicle ownership has become more than a convenience. It’s often considered a milestone, a necessity, and a symbol of personal freedom.

But as the world changes, so too must the way we move through it.

The Ispiciwin Project (pronounced iss-pih-chih-win) is here to help make sense of one of the biggest transitions in modern transportation: the shift from gas-powered vehicles to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and clean fuels. More than just a push toward electric cars, this shift is part of a larger journey toward sustainability, community resilience, and environmental responsibility.

And like all journeys, it starts with understanding where we are and where we want to go.

What Is The Ispiciwin Project?

“Ispiciwin” is a word in nêhiyawêwin (Cree) that means “to travel.” It reflects not just the physical act of movement, but the broader journey we’re all on as society rethinks what sustainable transportation looks like.

Led by The Pîsim Collective — a majority Indigenous-owned company rooted in environmental stewardship, cultural knowledge, and education — the Ispiciwin Project is focused on outreach, education, and awareness. It’s designed to help Canadians, especially those who haven’t yet engaged with ZEVs, better understand how clean transportation fits into everyday life.
This isn’t about selling cars. It’s about answering questions. Addressing doubts. Sharing stories. And offering support to individuals and communities as they navigate a changing world.

Why ZEVs, and Why Now?

You’ve likely heard of electric vehicles, but you might still be wondering: Are they really better for the environment? Can they handle northern winters? Are they affordable? What about charging stations?

These are exactly the kinds of questions The Ispiciwin Project hopes to unpack. Through accessible articles, videos, and digital content, the project aims to break down complex ideas into everyday language. Because this transition affects everyone, not just car enthusiasts or early adopters.

Canada has made strong commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including targets to phase out the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in the coming decades. But meeting those goals depends on public understanding, trust, and participation. That means making sure people have the information they need to make decisions that work for their lives — and their budgets.

What You Can Expect

The Ispiciwin Project is rolling out in stages, starting with a web and social media platform full of educational content designed to spark curiosity and open conversation. You’ll find:

  • Articles and explainers that answer common questions about ZEVs
  • Personal stories and interviews with people exploring electric and clean fuel vehicles
  • Videos that highlight local perspectives on sustainability and travel
  • Announcements about upcoming events, industry opportunities, test drive programs, and more

Whether you’re skeptical, curious, or already considering making the switch, this is a place to learn, not to be sold to. The goal is to meet people where they’re at, and help them move forward with confidence and clarity.

A Shared Journey

Follow along as we explore the road ahead. Ask questions. Share your experiences. And be part of something that’s not just about vehicles — but about values, vision, and the kind of future we all want to drive toward.
Because the way we travel matters. And how we change it? That matters even more.
