Lesson Introduction
Ask students how phones or tablets get charged. Connect this idea to cars. Explain that some people plug their cars in at home, just like a device.

Classroom Activity: Home Charging Sort
Show pictures or descriptions of:

  • A house with a driveway

  • An apartment building

  • A condo with underground parking

  • A home with no parking

Students sort which homes could easily charge an EV and which might need help from public chargers.

Discussion Questions

  • Why is charging at home convenient?

  • Why can’t everyone charge at home?

  • How could communities help people who don’t have home charging?

Optional Extension
Students draw their own home or a made-up home and explain how an EV could be charged there.
